It turns out some lady beat me by 5 minutes inquiring about the Acura TL so she got first dibs. Fucking talk about a carrot getting yanked out from in front of you. Fuck. For those just catching up I missed out on a 130k mile Acura TL 6MT A-spec with new timing belt, motor mounts, all new fluids, and a flawless interior for $5500 . So plan b: coworker’s in-laws are selling a 2006-ish I think Acura TSX 6MT with utter shit paint and 200k miles but great mechanical condition and the interior is good. They’ve had it since 60k miles so the entire relevant history of the car is known. How is a 200k mile K24 going to be?
Pic related: the TL I missed out on by 5 fucking minutes

Damn I thought you were already in communication with the seller first. Sorry to hear that.

Silver lining - she saved you from a life of endless torque steer and bald front tires.

This doesn’t sound like a bad thing. I drove one of these and absolutely loved it.

K24s are bulletproof, but the TL is more engaging even though mine is an auto.

Yeah but manual TLs are unobtanium for a price I can afford, it seems.

Yeah, they’re not exactly common. It’s even more rare in the 4th gen, less than 1% take rate. I didn’t even bother looking for one, though that was mainly because you couldn’t get it with the Advance package which I knew I wanted for sure.

What is it with TLs!
Me and my friend missed one by 5 minutes as well. I mean, we actually saw the kid who was buying it sign the papers and stuff!

Damn, that sucks. I know how much you’ve been searching for a car, how wide of a net are you casting? Reason I ask is because I was bored and did a search, and if you’re willing to drive, there’s an Accord in Oklahoma City, although it does have a theft history. But, I assume that wouldn’t deter you as evidenced by you getting your bike back on the road.

I was saying the same thing about houses for a while. Looking at realtor.com is fun; trying to buy a house is awful.

My anxiety was literally eating me from the inside over buying a new car, so i’d rather deal with the anger over having to rebuild an engine for my own... I mean optimally i’d do neither, but hey, gotta car somehow.. /shrug

The problem there is financing. Not only do I have to find something within a reasonable (OKC, Denver, KS City) driving distance, it also has to be something the bank will finance. So clean title, 05 or newer, under 140k miles or so, and under $6k. Kinda rules out basically everything I’d want to own.
That accord looks nice though.

What bank will finance a car more than 10 years old and with over 100k miles?
What sort of terms are they sticking you with that it wouldn't be wiser to buy it with cash?

Lots of banks. I’m getting 6 % for 48 months.

Nissan is the Dodge of Japan, so yes. Add a quart of oil every 1-2k miles and hopefully you don’t have to replace the same window regulator twice. Other than that, I think it’s pretty solid.

Now I’m trying to figure out who the Mitsubishi of the US is. I always thought they were more aligned with Chrysler than the rest of the Japanese automakers.
